After spending the last few years trying to find audiobook talent and going through 300 - 400 auditions everytime we put out an audition call and having only 2 or 3 dozen that were even worth listening to, we decided that this would be easier on our ears and more efficient when we frequently had to ask people for an audition more than 30 seconds long. Additionally, this gives us a chance to hear how your production quality actually is without all of the covering and EQ and background music.
Nope. You would be surprised at how many times this has been tried.
Sure, although it does take longer.

On a serious note though, you do need to be FTP literate sooner or later to be able to work with us.
Sure, we charge $250. an hour for studio time, 2 hour minimum. There is about a 6 month waiting list.
If we have a project that fits any of the genres that you have chosen or we think you fit in, then almost immediately. However, we will give you a short story or a "B" list project for the first one just to see how we work together. If we are real comfy with you and don't have a project to suit you and you are itching to go, we may offer you a co-publishing project if you are interested.
If you follow the requirements for auditioning, you will always get an answer from us whether it be yes or no. If you have just done "your own thing" we feel no obligation to acknowledge your presence.
No. As much as we do like to help people, and give back, this is too time consuming and defeats the purpose of this audition process. We do mentor people for this industry and freely offer our technical knowledge but that is once we have an established relationship. There is a section on this site with tips and tricks as well as resources for you to go out and hone your skills as a voice professional. The one thing that is vital to EVERY audition and recording that you send, is that when you listen to it, are you proud of it?

Our job rates vary from job to job and also if they are in house or for a client but they are always calculated "per finished hour" The reason being is that every job is always calculated on the same scale and the job costs are always trackable. If we pay "by the hour" we actually have no idea what we are paying you for. Are you a fast reader, slow reader, have a proper recording set-up, can you actually use your recording set-up? By the hour only works if you are recording in one of our studios where we know what is going on. We are not paying someone to learn their craft. Paying "by the page" just doesn't make sense as books and type are all different and causes no small amount of argument over what is what. "By the word" is just an easy way to pad an invoice. We have opted for by the finished hour only. It works well for us.

No, absolutely not. We do all of the final edit, assembly and mastering here as well as all the fun things that make a complete audiobook. What we want from you is a finished read, clean and dry. No double sentences, takes, out of place breaths, cars driving by, spouses nagging or babies screaming (usually because they are not clean and dry). And even more importantly no extra effects on the production to make you sound bigger and better, that is what we do and are very good at it. If you want to make your voice big and boomy get into doing car commercials.
Actually, we are pretty easy to work with. We have people that have been working with us for years and are proud to count them as friends now. We all work together with the same ethics, ear for quality, and love of what we do. We hope that you will find your way into this family as well.
No, never. We started this website in order to make the seeking of new talent easier on us and also to tell the readers what we want as far as an audition so that there is no wondering on their part. When we add the ability for other publishers to be able to search for readers on our site there will still be no charge to be listed, this is a service but do understand, only those that we have auditioned and accepted and work with will be listed there. We are not, and have no intention of being a talent agency. You will be there because we like and trust you.
