Over the years we have found that going through the audition process can be frustrating for for both the publisher and the talent. Especially since much of the talent is accustomed to ad agencies and commercial houses that want big voices and short obnoxious reads for maximum impact. With us needing audio book readers only and some readers only having short reads or an audio book read as an afterthought, we have come up with an audition process that is simple for us to review and puts everyone audition on a level playing field.
The bonus of this method is that your audition also becomes your audiobook demo for here or anywhere else you may choose.
If you are at this point we are going to assume a minimum knowledge of voicework, recording and associated terminology and have your own recording set-up.
It's time to get started, we are looking forward to hearing your demo.
Good luck!
The steps for auditioning are simple, following them will ensure that your audition is heard, and in a timely manner to get you working.
1) Pick an audiobook piece for your demo. It can be any genre that you are comfortable with and any type of material.
Our companies currently produce material that is science fiction, fantasy, horror, urban horror, romance and pulp classics and will soon be adding general fiction, detective, western and classic. The finished piece MUST be at least 5 minutes and no more than 7 minutes in length.
The next page has many pieces that are downloadable that you can use for your audition if you do not have a piece.
2) Record the piece that you have chosen. The recording MUST be dry. This means no background music or soundFX and no heavy compression or EQ. The piece must also be edited for content.
3) Convert the finished piece to MP3 format no less than 64/44.1
